How to Research a Medical Practice Before Walking In

Five focused minutes of research can improve the relevance of a field call. The goal is not to collect everything—it is to understand the business well enough to ask a credible first question.

Confirm you have the right business

Match the public practice name, legal entity or DBA, address and phone. Shared buildings and similarly named clinics create easy mistakes. Confirm that the provider or team you intend to discuss is actually associated with the location.

Open the practice’s own website when available. Directory summaries are useful for discovery, but the business’s published site is generally a better source for current public positioning.

  • Practice name
  • Legal entity or DBA
  • Street and suite
  • Phone
  • Provider association
  • Website

Understand the clinical and commercial context

Review the specialties and services that relate to the product. Look at the team page, locations and service descriptions. Do not assume that a broad specialty means the practice offers a specific procedure.

Write one sentence explaining why the account may be relevant and one fact that still needs confirmation. This creates a useful objective for the visit.

  • Relevant specialty
  • Published services
  • Number of locations
  • Team structure
  • Potential use case
  • Open question

Plan the approach

Know who you are asking for, but avoid presenting an inferred owner as fact. A provider, practice administrator or manager may each play a different role. Ask the front desk who handles the relevant category when the public record is unclear.

Check office hours and choose a reasonable visit window. Keep the introduction concise and connected to the practice’s public services rather than a generic pitch.

  • Likely role
  • Respectful timing
  • Specific relevance
  • Short introduction
  • Useful leave-behind
  • Clear next step

Improve the record after the visit

Record the disposition, names offered voluntarily, corrections to the address or business identity, and the next action. Keep private customer information inside the authenticated account, not in public marketing analytics.

If the location is closed or permanently irrelevant, archive it. If a key detail remains uncertain, label it that way. Accurate territory memory makes the next visit better.

  • Visit result
  • Verified correction
  • Decision role
  • Follow-up date
  • Archive reason
  • Evidence note
